Our three Baker Badminton teams recently attended the Ulster Badminton Awards — an annual gala recognising achievements across clubs, players and volunteers throughout the season.

For a club that has only just completed its first full season as an affiliated club, it was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how far the team has come and to be part of a wider badminton community we're now genuinely part of.

We're already looking forward to what next season brings. 🏸

This week, we welcomed Leanne Jennings and bronagh munro from We As One Movement into our Belfast centre. We As One is a survivor-led movement established to create a platform for survivors of sexual abuse and trauma.

Leanne and Bronagh spoke openly about the importance of breaking silence, tackling the stigma that so often surrounds survivors, and creating environments where people feel safe enough to come forward.

One message in particular stayed with the room; even the smallest act of listening and believing can make an enormous difference to someone who is struggling. They call it a "Lil Whisper", and the impact of that idea was felt very loudly in the room.

The visit forms part of our ongoing engagement with the Northern Ireland Strategy on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls — a commitment that extends to our work alongside community leaders and other stakeholders in this space and our own employee domestic violence and abuse policy.

Baker McKenzie's Chief Innovation Officer, Ben Allgrove, recently visited us to discuss the Firm's AI strategy, including the important role the Belfast Centre has to play.

Ben's visit was timely as we prepare to launch a series of practical, hands-on workshops across our Centre, focused on building confidence in using AI tools responsibly and effectively in day-to-day work.

The emphasis is firmly on real use cases, getting comfortable with the tools, and making sure our people are equipped to work at the leading edge of a rapidly changing industry, with Belfast at the forefront!

Earlier this week our team was at the Ulster University Graduate Careers Fair, meeting students from across the university — including the School of Law, Ulster University, Northern Ireland and Ulster University Business School. We chatted through what a career at Baker McKenzie Belfast actually looks like and what life here is really like.

Some of the people we meet at these events go on to join our graduate programme, and there's something really special about being there at the very start of that journey.

Our bGreen network — the sustainability-focused group here at our Belfast centre — hosted a Lunch & Learn session last month that took a slightly different approach to the usual lunchtime agenda.

The session covered everything from growing herbs at home and boosting garden biodiversity to keeping pets safe around common plants and tackling pests without reaching for the chemicals. Practical, genuinely useful stuff — and a nice reminder that the people who work here have interests and passions that go well beyond the day job.

As part of our International Women's Day programme earlier this year, we welcomed Annette Kelly from Little Penny Thoughts to our Belfast office for a session on mindset and positivity.

Annette's approach to personal growth and supporting one another felt like a natural fit for this year's IWD theme of Give to Gain, and it was a really well-received afternoon. The kind of event that stays with you after you leave the room.

First up, Richard Cameron sits down with Niamh Doherty from our AML/ KYC team. Niamh arrived here with a psychology degree and plenty of uncertainty about what she was walking into — and what she found surprised her in the best way.

Two of the Baker Belfast team, Sarah Wilson and Adina Saratian, joined fellow EDI Leaders at a forum hosted at Allstate Northern Ireland and organised by Diversity Mark, focused on the EVAWG strategy — Ending Violence Against Women and Girls.

It was a really valuable space to share experiences and think about what more we can do as employers to support colleagues and raise awareness. We were glad to be able to share our own experience of having a Domestic Abuse Policy in place — something we put in place to ensure colleagues experiencing domestic or family abuse have a safe and supportive workplace to turn to.

Important work, and great to be part of the conversation. 💜

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, teammates from across Baker McKenzie Belfast took the opportunity to step away from their screens, put the phones away for a while, and head out for a walk and talk around the Maritime Mile.

A bit of fresh air, a change of pace, and time to reconnect with colleagues outside the day-to-day routine.
