The White Room Creative Space

With its own dedicated creative space, it has become an exciting and successful place where artists can explore and showcase their artistic potential.

The White Room is a creative studio that works to removes barriers to making art for people with learning disabilities and other under-served community members. The White Room Community Creative Space was developed in late 2014 in response to a growing need to foster and develop the creative talent of people supported by SkillWise. The White Room advocates for the artists inclusion in contemporary arts practice through supporting their art making, participation in exhibitions and other creative projects. Recently we have begun a new outreach programme, which aims to increase access to, and participation in, creative activities for groups of people in Ōtautahi who experience barriers to participation.

Massive thank you to Linda for calling into the studio with a donation of art materials. Nigel and Stevie pictured here with Linda gladly accepting the goods!

We are always so grateful to receive quality donated materials to help keep our studio creating. With over 70 artists there is a lot of output so donations are always welcome. If you are doing a spring clean and want to move on art materials please get in touch ⭐️

We are taking a moment to celebrate our incredible volunteers!
Together, they have contributed 267 hours to open the gallery, generated $6143 in sales and introduced more of our community to the mahi of The White Room.
Every gallery shift, conversation and artwork sold helps share artists’ stories, celebrate creativity and make art more accessible in our community.
To our amazing volunteers, thank you for giving your time, energy and care to support The White Room artists and our mahi. You are making an impact!

Want to be part of it? We’re always looking for new volunteers to join us.
Whether you’d love to welcome visitors at The Shed Gallery, join us at The Tannery Pop-up, help out in our studio, or have another skill or idea you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you.

Message directly or get in touch via our website to find out more about how you could get involved.
