🌏 New Zealand Reduces Visitor Visa Fees for Pacific Nationals

New Zealand has announced a temporary reduction in Visitor Visa fees for eligible Pacific nationals, making it easier and more affordable for people to visit family, friends, and communities across the Tasman.

From 1 June 2026, the cost of a Visitor Visa has been reduced from NZD $216 to NZD $161 for eligible applicants applying from outside New Zealand. The change will be in place for an initial 12-month period.

For Tim, it all started on a freezing building site in the north of England, reading about life in New Zealand and wondering if there was something more out there.

After attending a migration seminar, things quickly became real. With support from Migration Associates, he was guided through everything from job interviews to settling in, making the transition straightforward and clear. As a carpenter, Tim secured work quickly and made the move to Christchurch - a big step, especially travelling alone, but one he was fully prepared for.

Now, years later, he’s built a life that’s completely different from the UK, with snowboarding, mountain biking, and the outdoors right on his doorstep

In Golden Bay, Te Waikoropupū Springs are famous for having some of the clearest freshwater on the planet, with visibility so high you can see incredible detail deep below the surface.

Fed by underground aquifers, the water rises up in vivid shades of blue and green, creating a scene that feels almost otherworldly. But it’s not just about how it looks, the springs are also wāhi tapu (a sacred site) for Māori.

🟢What is NZ's Green List?

New Zealand’s Green List is a list of high-demand occupations that offer skilled workers a faster pathway to residency. If you have a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer in an eligible Green List role, you may be able to access either a Straight to Residence or Work to Residence pathway, depending on your occupation and circumstances.

The Green List includes roles across sectors such as healthcare, engineering, IT, education, trades, and agriculture, helping NZ fill critical skill shortages while giving qualified migrants a clearer route to building a future here.

🇳🇿 New Zealand has expanded its English language requirements for Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applicants in Skill Level 3 roles.

As of 1 June 2026, applicants for ANZSCO and National Occupation List (NOL) Skill Level 3 occupations are required to demonstrate basic English proficiency (IELTS 4.0 or equivalent), bringing these roles into line with existing requirements for Skill Levels 4 and 5.

The change is designed to support workplace communication, help migrants integrate into New Zealand communities, and ensure workers can better understand their employment rights and obligations. Transitional exemptions apply for some existing AEWV holders.

For employers and prospective migrants, the update highlights the importance of factoring English language requirements into recruitment and visa planning.

For Joan and Trevor, New Zealand started as a place to visit family, but it quickly became somewhere they didn’t want to leave.

After travelling across both the South and North Islands during retirement, the couple realised the lifestyle, scenery and atmosphere offered something truly different. On the flight home, the decision was already made: next time, they’d stay.

With their two sons already living in New Zealand, they applied for a Parental Residency Visa, allowing them to reunite with family and begin a new chapter together.

Now settled, they’ve found exactly what they were looking for - a more relaxed pace of life, friendly communities, and a country they genuinely love.

✨ Their advice? Don’t hesitate, just go for it.

Known for its subtropical climate, Northland is perfect for those who love the outdoors, with easy access to beaches, forests, and some of New Zealand’s most significant cultural sites.

You’ll also find opportunities in tourism, agriculture, and marine industries, alongside growing communities that value space and a strong connection to nature.
