City, County & Local Government Law Section of the Florida Bar

City, County & Local Government Law Section of the Florida Bar A Florida Bar organization for lawyers practicing local government law. The Section serves approximately 1,700 lawyers.

We represent local government and private interests in the area of local government. Our work usually centers on local government boards, commissions, councils, and districts, and the work that they do. The top 5 benefits to section membership are:

that distributes messages, legal questions or issues to section members via email. Any subscriber can post or respond to a message.

3. Seminars such as the Annual Public Employers Labor Relations Forum, Sunshine Law – Public Records and Ethics for Public Officers & Employees, the Annual Local Government Law in Florida, the Certification Review Course, and Land Use.

4. Publications such as the Stetson Law Review, the Agenda, the Local Government Law Desk Book.

5. The section provides a united voice for city county local government issues within the Florida Bar. It provides a platform to explore new ideas for programs and services that will meet the needs of the local government lawyers today and tomorrow.

REMINDER: If you're interested in City, County, and Local Government Law board certification, the application filing period runs from September 1 to October 31 to determine eligibility to sit for the May 2027 exam. Applications must be postmarked by October 31.

Only 297 lawyers are currently Florida Bar board-certified in City, County, and Local Government Law.

Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in various areas of law, and professionalism and ethics in practice. In addition to the comprehensive exam, each board-certified lawyer undergoes a rigorous peer-review process that assesses competence in a specialty field, professionalism, and ethics in the practice of law.

To identify those lawyers who practice city, county and local government law and have the special knowledge, skills, and proficiency to be properly identified to the public as board certified in city, county and local government law.
