Bringing a baby home can feel like the moment an adoption becomes complete, but there are still important legal steps that must happen before the adoption is finalized. After the baby's birth, the adoption process may include obtaining the required consents, completing necessary legal documents, addressing parental rights, and making sure all requirements under Florida adoption law have been satisfied.
If the adoptive family lives in another state, ICPC approval will also generally be required before the family can leave Florida with the baby.
During the time before finalization, your adoption attorney continues working behind the scenes to prepare the case, complete required filings, and make sure everything is ready for the court.
Then comes a milestone families have been waiting for: adoption finalization. Once the court enters the final judgment of adoption, the adoptive parents become the child's legal parents.
There may be a lot happening between birth and finalization, but you do not have to navigate those legal steps alone.
