Hurricane Isaias 2026 hit Pensacola on Friday evening, October 10. It came in furious & went out in the same manner. We prepared for the storm as we’ve learned to do over the last 30 years. Our beautiful neighborhood (along with our city) took a beating from the very strong winds. We lost beautiful trees that have stood for many years. A few neighbors suffered damage to their homes. The pics in the video were taken one week after the storm… the debris was still being stacked. As of today the humming of chain saws fill the air; double load debris trucks are making their rounds to start the pick up.
Things learned:
Sometimes the “big” things become the little things. You learn the wave or the eye contact from a neighbor that says- I’m ok, I’ve got this or- maybe I could use some help. You learn you really can camp for a few days without power/internet/phone service. You really feel the peace in the early evening / late night when there’s no light & just the hum of the neighbors generators. You see the wildlife whose homes have been shaken, twirled & dropped, they lost their homes. We see the damage & forge forward for a new tomorrow looking forward to the new beauty of our neighborhood. We will have 2 lanes again soon; everyone will get back to our regularly scheduled lives, slowly but surely. The blisters from the rack/chainsaw etc have healed; the muscles that ached for days have settled… we truly are stronger than we ever knew.
In all the commotion and chaos, we truly are blessed.
Video for my reference in years to come. Unless you rode through, you can not appreciate the magnitude of the damage. The day before the hurricane & the day after were the most beautiful days. In Gods way, he showed us the wonders of his beauty. Purposely no music to the video so the sounds can be heard from the video clips.
