⭐️COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: CORDOVA PARK⭐️
Cordova Park today unfolds as a vibrant, welcoming neighborhood where a variety of home styles coexist in harmony. Featuring over 1,200 residences, the area offers everything from mid-century brick ranches to modern traditional family homes, with bayou-front estates along Bayou Boulevard reaching into the upper price tiers. Within its boundaries lie four city parks—Dunwody, Miralla, Pintado, and Baars—each providing green space, playgrounds, trails, and sports facilities for all ages. Families enjoy access to nearby schools including Cordova Elementary, Workman Middle, and Booker T. Washington High School. Additionally, residents benefit from easy access to downtown Pensacola, the airport, Cordova Mall, healthcare facilities, and a broad mix of dining and shopping options—all just minutes away.
Cordova Park’s origins trace back to the turn of the 20th century, rooted in the legacy of Henry Gerhardt Sophus Baars, a lumber magnate who acquired thousands of acres in what was then a wooded expanse. The dramatic oak-lined tree tunnel began as the Baarses' private driveway leading to their opulent estate, known as Cordova Towers or simply “The Towers,” which overlooked Bayou Texar from a grand home with gardens, turrets, and pergolas. Though the Baars family hoped to develop the land into a resort-like enclave for northern vacationers, economic challenges and their passing meant the idea was never fully realized. Ultimately, beginning in the 1950s and accelerating through the 1960s to 1980s, the suburb began to take shape—subdivided, paved, and populated into the community recognized today.
