A drug charge in Louisiana is not a parking ticket. Possession, distribution — even small amounts — can mean real jail time and a felony on your record.

But a charge is not a conviction. The State has to prove how the drugs were found, who they belonged to, and that the search was legal. If any link in that chain breaks, the case can fall apart.

Talk to a criminal defense lawyer before you talk to anyone else.

Don't just fight HARD. Fight SMART.

Miranda rights do not work the way they look on television.

In Louisiana, officers must read your rights when they interrogate you in custody — but they do not have to read them the moment you are arrested. If they question you without the warning, your statements may be suppressed.

Three things to remember:
1. Miranda protects you from compelled statements, not the arrest itself.
2. Anything you say before and after can still be used against you if the warning was given properly.
3. "I am invoking my right to remain silent, and I want a lawyer" shuts the interview down.

Use the words. Then use them again.

Do not just fight HARD. Fight SMART.

Arrested in Louisiana? The clock starts the second the cuffs go on.

Three things to do right now:
1. Say nothing. "I want a lawyer" are the four most powerful words you own.
2. Do not consent to any search. Ever.
3. Get a criminal defense attorney involved immediately. Louisiana's Article 701 deadlines move fast, and what happens in the first 24 hours shapes everything.

All lawyers fight HARD. Do not just fight HARD. Fight SMART.
