This week, our attorney T.C. Wicker testified before the Louisiana Senate Judiciary A Committee in support of SB 500, a bill that would reform Louisiana's mandatory medical review panel system, which has been delaying justice for injured patients for decades.
The committee voted 4-2 to move the bill forward, and it's now headed to a full Senate floor vote this Tuesday, May 6.
Louisiana's current system requires injured patients to survive two full rounds of litigation before they can access the courts, a process that can take three years or more, often while they're dealing with devastating injuries and financial hardship.
SB 500 offers a simpler, proven alternative already used in 25 other states: a physician affidavit confirming malpractice before a suit is filed. Same filter. Far less delay.
We'll continue to follow this bill (the full Senate votes Tuesday, May 6) and advocate for Louisiana patients.
