Domestic violence is not always visible. It doesn’t always leave bruises. Sometimes, it looks like financial control, isolation, intimidation, threats, or the systematic erosion of someone’s independence. Sometimes, it continues long after a relationship ends, through custody disputes, financial manipulation, or the misuse of the legal system itself.
At Reczek Chase Law, domestic violence advocacy is not a peripheral part of our practice. Every attorney at our firm represents individuals navigating these difficult and deeply personal circumstances. We understand that abuse is rarely confined to a single incident, and that meaningful legal advocacy requires recognizing patterns of power, control, and coercion. Our commitment extends beyond simply knowing the law. We work to advance thoughtful, informed approaches to domestic violence cases, challenge misconceptions about abuse, and ensure that the legal system recognizes the realities survivors face.

A birth certificate can document your family. But for many LGBTQ+ parents, it may not provide all of the legal protection you expect.
When a child is born to a married same-sex couple, both parents may appear on the birth certificate. But being listed on a birth certificate is not necessarily the same thing as having a court order establishing your legal relationship with your child, particularly when one parent is not biologically related to the child.
That distinction can become especially important if your family travels or moves, if the biological parent dies, or if the parents later separate.
An adoption provides something a birth certificate alone may not: a court judgment establishing you as your child’s legal parent.
Your family shouldn’t have to prove that it is a family. But taking the extra legal step can help make sure your parental rights are protected when it matters most.
