Arrested but never convicted? That record is still following you.

In Louisiana, an arrest stays on your criminal record even if the case was dismissed, dropped, or you were found not guilty — unless you get it expunged. Employers, landlords, and licensing boards can see it.

Expungement is a real legal process with real deadlines and paperwork. When it is done right, that arrest can be wiped from the record as if it never happened.

In Louisiana, bail is not punishment. It is the price of your freedom before trial.

After an arrest, a judge sets bond at a hearing. The amount depends on the charge, the person's record, and their ties to the community. And a good lawyer argues for lower bond — or personal recognizance — at that very first hearing.

It is often the first real fight of the case. Make sure someone who knows the courtroom is fighting it for you.

Don't just fight HARD. Fight SMART.

An officer asks, "Mind if I search your car?" Here is the answer: yes, you mind.

You have the right to refuse consent to a search — of your car, your pockets, your phone, your home. Politely, clearly: "I do not consent to any searches."

Here is why it matters in Louisiana: if you consent, the officer can search without probable cause, and whatever is found becomes evidence against you. If you refuse and the search happens anyway, your lawyer can challenge whether it was legal at all.

Never physically resist. Just do not consent.

Do not just fight HARD. Fight SMART.

Stopped for DWI in Louisiana? Know this before you decide about the breath test.

Under Louisiana's implied consent law, refusing the breathalyzer triggers an automatic license suspension. But blowing 0.08 or higher hands the State evidence it will use against you. There is no perfect answer at the roadside — which is exactly why the next step matters: an experienced DWI lawyer can challenge the stop, the field sobriety tests, and the machine itself.

Do not just fight HARD. Fight SMART.
