🟣 Monday, June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
An estimated 1 in 10 older Americans, about 5 million people, experience abuse, neglect, or exploitation each year. Many are nursing home and long-term care residents who can't speak up for themselves.
At Stiletto Legal Group, fighting for elders who've been harmed by the facilities entrusted to care for them is what we do every day. Families are often the first line of defense, so it helps to know what to look for:
• Unexplained bruises, falls, or bedsores • Sudden weight loss, poor hygiene, or untreated medical needs • Fear, withdrawal, or mood changes around certain staff • Missing money or belongings, or unusual financial activity
If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts. Ask questions, write down what you see, and don't be afraid to speak up for someone who can't.
