It has been a real pleasure to work with Paulo Garcia MP this term, the first MP in New Zealand of Filipino descent, and a truly great human being.

He has been my deputy chair on the Social Services and Community Select Committee for much of that time, and we have done a lot of work together.

It was both uplifting and sobering to hear his valedictory speech where he described some of the challenges of being a Member of Parliament.
