Do you have a Will? It's one of those important tasks that's easy to put off.

Many people assume their assets will automatically go where they want them to, but if you pass away without a Will, your estate will be distributed according to New Zealand law.

A Will allows you to decide who receives your assets, appoint someone you trust to administer your estate, and provide clarity for your loved ones at what is often a difficult time.

As Principal Debra Barron explains, putting a straightforward Will in place is often far simpler and more affordable than people expect, and it can save your family significant time, cost and stress down the track.

If you've been meaning to get your affairs in order, we'd be happy to help.

We're proud to celebrate someone very special to the ClearStone Legal whānau.

Many of our clients know Elyse Crowther as a valued member of our team, but this week we'd like to acknowledge Elyse's partner, Mark Wilson, who has been featured by ANZ for his remarkable life journey and advocacy work. From overcoming the challenges of a severe brain injury and cerebral palsy, to representing New Zealand in sport, building a successful career, authoring a memoir, and supporting other families through the Brain Injured Children Trust, Mark's story is one of determination, resilience, and making a difference.

Mark's message about acceptance, belonging and focusing on ability rather than limitation is both powerful and inspiring. As a firm built on supporting people through some of life's most important moments, it's a message that resonates deeply with us.

Congratulations Mark on your well-deserved recognition. We're thrilled to see your story shared with a wider audience and proud to have Elyse and her family as part of the ClearStone Legal community. 💛

To watch Mark's story, visit the ANZ feature below: https://www.anz.com.au/newsroom/new-zealand/2026/10/no-explaining-no-apologising-just-acceptance/

Doctors told Mark Wilson’s parents he would likely never walk or talk.

Many people assume that once they have signed a Will, their estate planning is complete. However, significant life events such as entering a new relationship, purchasing property, establishing a trust, having children, or changes to your financial circumstances can all affect whether your Will still reflects your wishes.

One commonly overlooked fact is that marriage automatically revokes an existing Will, unless that Will was specifically made in contemplation of that marriage. Many people are surprised to learn that getting married can unintentionally leave them without a valid Will if this issue has not been addressed.

A review every few years can help ensure your loved ones are protected and your affairs are dealt with as you intend.

If it has been a while since you looked at your Will, now may be a good time to review it.
