MC Meredith Connell (MC) is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading public-interest litigation firm. MC is New Zealand’s largest litigation firm, by far.

With 160 litigators in Auckland and Wellington, we’re at least five times the size of our nearest rival. As Office of the Crown Solicitor at Auckland, MC is the repository and custodian of specialist knowledge that’s been accrued over generations to benefit the Crown, while ensuring prosecution decisions are independent from politicians. We derive legitimacy from Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Today's MC i

s a blended firm, with our litigators doing both Crown prosecutions and every other kind of litigation. That gives the Crown a huge resource of litigators to prosecute criminal cases, with expertise in every area of the law that might arise. MC has been growing strongly since the mid-2010s and we're in competition with the other big New Zealand firms for talent. Our new MC Centre is Auckland is designed not so much with clients in mind but to provide the best work environment of any law firm in Australasia. To that end, we are the first law firm in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve WELL v2 pre-certification from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). It has required us to provide evidence and in some cases make improvements to meet standards measuring 108 different features covering ten concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community. MC aims for platinum certification. As New Zealand’s largest litigation firm by far, MC invests more than any other in litigation training. The MC Centre boasts a full training courtroom designed exactly like a courtroom at the Auckland High Court, the only one of its type in Australasia and perhaps unique in the world. It is where you can learn to be the best litigator of the future from the best litigators of today. Follow us to learn more about who we are and what we stand for.

A powerhouse panel of MC wāhine, Kathleen Morrison, Sophie Vreeburg, Lilla Dittrich, Erandi Rangamuwa and Sarah Murphy, led a discussion panel at the UoA Women in Law Mid-Year Mingle Event last week, hosted at MC. Sharing honesty, humour and insight, it was a lovely evening of connection with mentors, mentees and future lawyers.

We are proud to support UoA Women in Law, especially their mentoring programme, designed to support first-year law students from backgrounds underrepresented within the law school. The programme provides over 300 participants each year with pastoral support, leadership development and community.

Thank you to the team at UoA Women in Law for being amazing to work with, it is always a pleasure to host you at MC!

Congratulations Sophie-Anne Barry on your admission to the bar earlier this month! Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou ko tō whānau, Sophie.

It is always a special milestone to celebrate, and it was lovely to do so along with whānau and friends. Sophie's moving counsel was her sister, and some of her MC friends and colleagues were also there in support (pictured).

We are proud to have you with us at MC as you begin the next stage of your legal career!
