Signing a marital settlement agreement can feel less official than a judge's ruling.
A recent Florida appeals decision shows it is not. On October 7, Florida's Fourth District Court of Appeal held that alimony in an agreement approved and incorporated into a divorce judgment counts as a court support order under federal law, which allowed garnishment above the usual 25 percent limit.
The decision is not yet final, and Bay County judges generally follow it unless the First District has ruled differently.
