The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially published a final rule eliminating the traditional βduration of statusβ (DS) framework for international students (F visas), exchange visitors (J visas), and foreign media representatives (I visas).
Moving forward, the U.S. government will enforce a fixed period of admission to enhance national security, prevent visa abuse, and standardize the oversight of nonimmigrant visa holders.
