California Homeownership Doesn’t Tip Until 47

One proposal focuses on helping middle-class buyers, potentially offering up to $25 billion in revenue bonds—this could mean down payment assistance up to 17% for those purchasing newly built homes throughout the state. There’s also an $11.25 billion bond package aimed at expanding lower-income housing and supporting our veterans, with $10 billion set aside for affordable housing and $1.25 billion for veteran home loan programs in California. Unlike grants, the middle-class assistance would be repaid monthly, which supporters say could spur more homes for sale, though some have raised concerns about taxpayer risk. These measures would join the state’s shared-appreciation program, which recently provided up to 20% down payment assistance (up to $150,000) for first-generation buyers.
