September is Wills Month, a good reminder to think about your plans for the future and make sure your loved ones are protected.

If you don’t have a Will, or it’s a been a while since you last looked at it, now is the perfect time to revisit it. Relationships, family and circumstances change, so your plans may need to change too.

A Will helps make your wishes clear and gives your loved ones greater certainty when they need it most.

🏡 Buying your first home is an exciting time, but there are a few key things to consider before you sign on the dotted line:

Can I use my KiwiSaver to buy through a family trust?

Yes, but there are specific requirements. You’ll need to meet KiwiSaver rules, including being a trustee and beneficiary and intending to live in the property. Check with your KiwiSaver provider before signing.

What should I check before going unconditional?

Completing your due diligence is an important step. This may include reviewing the LIM, building report, council records, insurance and any relevant property documents.

How can I protect myself during the process?

A due diligence condition may give you extra flexibility while you complete your checks. Your lawyer can help you decide what is best for your situation.

Last week, we were delighted to donate our old office IT equipment to the team at Abilities Group.

Abilities is a wonderful local charity that empowers people with disabilities by creating meaningful work opportunities and offering a range of recycling services to help reduce waste and protect our environment.

If you have office items that need recycling, please consider donating them to Abilities to help support the amazing work they do in our community 💙

The Employment Leave Bill has passed into law and will replace the Holidays Act 2003, marking one of the biggest changes to leave legislation in decades.

The new system will simplify how leave is calculated and managed, making it easier for employers, employees and payroll providers to understand. The changes include:

➡️ Leave available from day one
➡️ A simpler hourly-based leave system
➡️ Changes to leave and public holiday entitlements
➡️ Payroll, policy and employment agreement updates

The current Holidays Act 2003 remains in place for now, with businesses having a 24-month transition period to prepare for the new system.

We can help you understand what these changes mean for your business and prepare your employment agreements, policies and payroll processes.
