From 1 June 2026, the Government will extend minimum English language requirements to ANZSCO and National Occupation List Skill Level 3 occupations under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).

Key points to note:

• Applies to new AEWV applications from 1 June 2026 in Skill Level 3 roles
• Applicants must show basic English via an approved test, study, work experience, or citizenship
• Existing AEWV holders are not affected
• Transitional exemption applies for visas expiring on or before 1 December 2026 (if reapplying before expiry)

This change aims to support better workplace communication, understanding of rights, and smoother integration into New Zealand workplaces.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to host Patrick Yeung from Lincoln University at our office and have some genuinely valuable conversations around student pathways, future opportunities, and the programmes Lincoln University is well known for.

Recently, we also attended Lincoln University’s agent event, and it truly felt like a continuation of those conversations, but on a much bigger scale. It was great connecting with fellow agents and the Lincoln team while sharing insights around international education and student success in New Zealand.

Some of the major highlights from the event included:

• Lincoln University now accepts the Duolingo English Test for various programmes.
• The university offers Diploma programmes in Agriculture, aligning with pathways connected to Green List occupations in New Zealand.
• Offers a wide range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Accounting (CPA pathway levels), Agriculture, and Commerce.

If you’re exploring study opportunities in New Zealand, now is a great time to learn more about what Lincoln University has to offer.

Feel free to connect with us to discuss the right pathway for your future.
