Happy 13th Birthday, Foster šŸ¤

It’s hard to put into words what you mean to me.

Thirteen years of loyalty, quiet companionship, and the kind of love that shows up every single day... steady, patient, and full of heart.

Whether you’re offering your favorite bone (as if I might take it) or playing side by side with your fursibling, you remind me of something simple but important… that love doesn’t need to be complicated to be meaningful.

You’ve been there through so many seasons, always by my side.

Today, we celebrate you and all the joy, comfort, and unconditional love you’ve brought into life.

Happy Birthday, sweet boy. 🐾

Many business owners think about succession planning as something for ā€œsomeday.ā€

But in reality, life doesn’t always follow a timeline we expect.

Transitions can happen due to illness, unexpected changes, shifts in partnerships, or circumstances we simply couldn’t have planned for.

And in those moments, having a clear plan in place can make all the difference for both your family and your business.

One of the most common gaps I see is that estate planning and business succession planning are treated as separate conversations.

In truth, they are closely connected. When they aren’t aligned, it can create confusion at a time when clarity is most needed.

If you’ve built something meaningful—a practice, a company, or a lifelong body of work—it’s worth taking the time to ensure it can continue in a way that reflects your intentions and supports the people who depend on it.

Thoughtful planning doesn’t have to happen all at once. It simply begins with understanding how the pieces fit together.

A quiet moment like this can be easy to miss.

A hummingbird pauses for just a second… and then it’s gone.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much of life moves that way.
It's quick, quiet, and often unannounced.

It’s part of why planning matters.

Not out of urgency or fear, but out of care.
For the people we love, for the moments we want to protect, and for the steadiness we hope to create over time.

Small moments have a way of reminding us what’s worth tending to.

Planning for the future often includes decisions about real estate... how it’s held, how it’s transferred, and how it supports the people you care about.

Beginning this month, a new federal reporting rule will apply to certain property transfers involving trusts and entities.

For many families, this won’t change what they choose to do, but it may change how those decisions are carried out.

Moments like this are a good reminder that thoughtful planning isn’t just about documents. It’s about staying informed and making adjustments along the way.

I’ll be sharing a few reflections on what this change may mean and how to approach it with clarity.

Stay tuned to learn more in this month's blog.

Every day, there seems to be something new about what AI can do, along with ongoing conversations about whether it might replace professionals in many fields.

When it comes to estate planning, my concern isn’t competition, it’s what can quietly be lost when something as deeply personal as your life, values, and family relationships becomes ā€œautomated.ā€

Estate planning is not just paperwork or forms. It is listening, understanding, and honoring the unique story behind every family.

It is sitting together, asking thoughtful questions, acknowledging complex dynamics, and creating a plan grounded in clarity, compassion, and integrity.

NO algorithm can replace meaningful conversation, context, or the human care that goes into helping someone prepare for life’s most significant transitions.

YOUR legacy deserves to be approached with patience, wisdom, and respect for the people you love.

Technology can support our work, but it cannot hold your hand, see your tears, understand your hopes, or help your family feel steady in uncertain moments.

That human connection still matters deeply.

Your story deserves to be heard and cared for... with heart.

Happy Holidays from Terri Hilliard PC šŸŖ·šŸ¤

As we move through this holiday season, my heart is especially full of gratitude for the strength, compassion, and kindness within our community.

This year, we invited friends, clients, and neighbors to share reflections for our upcoming Gratitude Wall, and the messages we’ve received speak to courage, resilience, memory, love, and hope.

While we’ll be sharing the full Gratitude Wall soon, I wanted to offer a small glimpse in the meantime:

ā€œI am grateful for the generosity and kindness of strangers who reminded me that I am not lost or alone in life’s difficult moments.ā€

So many of the messages we’ve received echo this same truth —
that even in seasons of loss, change, illness, and uncertainty, community care helps carry us through.

That love—whether from family, friends, pets, nature, or neighbors—remains a steady source of light.
And that the memories we hold onto continue to warm our lives long after moments have passed.

To everyone who shared, thank you. Your words are a gift.

As Hanukkah begins, we pause to honor a season rooted in light, resilience, and enduring hope.

Hanukkah reminds us that even a small flame can carry great meaning—that faith, perseverance, and care can illuminate the darkest moments.

It is a time to gather with loved ones, to remember stories passed through generations, and to find strength in traditions that ground us.

May this season bring moments of warmth around the table, quiet reflection, and connection with those who matter most.

May the light you kindle, both literally and figuratively, continue to guide you through the days ahead.

From all of us at Terri Hilliard PC, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful Hanukkah, filled with light, remembrance, and community.

One of the things I treasure most during the holidays is gathering with our community and sharing in traditions that bring people together.

This Saturday, I’ll be attending one of Moorpark’s most beloved seasonal events, Holiday on High Street, and I would love to see you there!

I’ll be on the historic High Street enjoying the music, the lights, the familiar faces, and all the old-fashioned holiday cheer that makes this evening so special.

Be sure to stop by. If you find me, I’ll have a small gift waiting for you.

Holiday on High Street
Saturday, December 6, 2025
3:30–7:30 pm
Moorpark’s Historic High Street

You can expect snow, Santa, local vendors, food, free rides, and the simple joy of celebrating the season together.

Events like this remind us how powerful community connection can be, especially during times that invite reflection, gratitude, and togetherness.

I hope to see you there for an evening filled with warmth and shared joy.

This season invites us to slow down and return to what truly sustains us... connection, presence, and the people who walk alongside us through every chapter of life. It’s a time to reflect on gratitude, not just for the big milestones, but for the everyday moments that often matter most.

As we gather with family, friends, and loved ones, we’re also reminded of the power of care and community.

A simple check-in, an offering of time, or a small act of generosity can make a meaningful difference in someone else’s season.

May this Thanksgiving bring moments of warmth, reflection, and togetherness and may gratitude continue to guide us well beyond the holiday.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the ones that remind us what truly matters. šŸ‚

I spent the afternoon playing in the fall leaves with my grandson... and as you can see… inherited my heart-covered good looks! šŸ˜‰

Jokes aside, these are the moments that ground us. The laughter, the small hands reaching for yours, the quiet joy of being present with the people we love.

No matter what life throws our way... the challenges, the noise, the unexpected storms... it’s these connections that keep us steady.

These are the memories that shape our legacy far more than anything else.

Don’t let anything take away from the precious moments you have with the people who fill your life with meaning.

Hold them close. Make time. Notice the little things.

In the end, love is the only thing that truly lasts. šŸšŸŖ·

For many business owners, the work you do isn’t just a career — it’s a lifetime of early mornings, late nights, risks, sacrifices, and victories that shaped not only your livelihood, but your identity.

When the time comes to think about stepping back, the questions that arise aren’t just financial.

They’re emotional:
Will my values carry on?
Will the people who helped me build this be taken care of?
Will what I built be honored — or forgotten?

Succession planning is about far more than documents and legal processes.

It’s about preserving the heart of what you’ve created and ensuring it continues with the same integrity, vision, and care that guided you all these years.

In my latest blog, I share the steps families can take to prepare for a transition that protects:
🪷 The true value of your business
🪷 Your estate and hard-earned assets
🪷 The relationships and people who made your work meaningful

After more than 25 years supporting families and business owners through life’s most tender transitions, I’ve learned this:
Planning is an act of love — for your family, your team, and your future.
