Key facts about DC dog bite claims:
• DC follows a "strict liability" rule—owners are responsible even without prior incidents
• Claims can include medical bills, plastic surgery, scarring, and emotional trauma
• Homeowner's insurance typically covers dog bite liability
• Children are the most common victims of serious dog attacks

Why bicycle accidents in DC require experienced attorneys:

On April 9, CSCS senior partner Joseph Cammarata argued before the Supreme Court of Maryland in Torney v. Towson University — a premises liability case asking the court to clarify a landowner's duty to protect invitees from foreseeable harm caused by the criminal acts of third parties.

We represent a Towson University student who was shot at a campus gathering in 2021 while university police were present and did not intervene. The lower courts dismissed the case. The Supreme Court of Maryland agreed to hear the appeal in January and heard oral argument on April 9.

On April 21, the court dismissed the writ as improvidently granted. The lower rulings stand, and the underlying legal question — the scope of a landowner's duty to act when foreseeable harm is unfolding on its property — remains unresolved at Maryland's highest level.

Rideshare accidents in Washington, DC have become increasingly common as Uber and Lyft dominate transportation in the District. Whether you're a passenger, another driver, or a pedestrian injured in a rideshare collision, these cases involve complex insurance layers that can be difficult to navigate alone.

Uber and Lyft accidents raise unique questions:
• Was the driver logged into the app?
• Which insurance policy applies?
• Is the rideshare company liable?
• How do multiple coverage layers work?

The answer depends on the driver's status at the time of the crash—offline, waiting for a ride, en route to pickup, or actively transporting a passenger. Each scenario triggers different insurance coverage. At Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, our DC car accident attorneys understand the complex insurance structures rideshare companies use and how to maximize compensation for injured victims.
