Carousel Ranch holds such a special place in my heart. ❤️ The work they do, the lives they touch, and the love they pour into our community is truly extraordinary. Their commitment to empowering children and young adults with special needs is something that continues to inspire me.

I am incredibly proud and grateful to serve as a Board Member alongside such a passionate, generous, and dedicated group of people. Being surrounded by individuals who give so much of themselves to support this mission is a privilege, and I’m so excited for everything we will continue to accomplish together.

And somehow, in the middle of supporting a cause I love so much, I ended up with a pretty amazing surprise of my own… I won a new puppy! 🐶🤠❤️

I think he may have already stolen my heart — and I’m seriously thinking Pistol might be the perfect name. 🖤

A beautiful night, an incredible cause, wonderful people, and an unexpected new little member of the family. My heart is very full. ❤️

From Defending Corporations to Defending People! ⚖️

I’m Nikki Staggs, a litigator of 13 years who spent most of her career in the courtroom defending Fortune 100 corporations to mid-size employers.

Now, I represent California employees in Labor & Employment disputes against their employer, including, but not limited to: whistleblower, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, unpaid wage disputes, etc.

I know how companies think because I was in those rooms, giving advice and counsel and defending those corporations. Now, I use that experience to get justice when corporations cross the line.

*Straightforward advice. Relentless advocacy. That’s how I work.

When a Firing Becomes Illegal in California ⚖️

California is an “at-will” state but that doesn’t mean your employer can fire you for any reason. Here are some examples of illegal termination:

1️⃣ Discrimination – Fired because of your race, gender, pregnancy, disability, age, orientation or religion. Etc.
2️⃣ Retaliation – Let go after reporting harassment, wage issues, discrimination or unsafe conditions. Etc.
3️⃣ Leave Violations – Losing your job for taking protected medical or family leave (CFRA/FMLA).
4️⃣ Whistleblower Retaliation – Terminated after reporting illegal or unethical behavior.
5️⃣ Breach of Contract – Fired despite having a valid written or verbal agreement with your employer.

💬 If any of this sounds familiar, you may have legal rights. Contact a labor and employment attorney.

California whistleblower laws make it illegal for your employer to retaliate when you report workplace hazards, safety violations, or other misconduct.

💥 Retaliation can look like:
• Sudden termination or demotion
• Reduced hours or pay cuts
• Exclusion from meetings or projects
• Negative performance reviews after you
speak up
• Threats, intimidation, or hostility

✅ Document everything. If you have an in person meeting with HR or management send a text or email, after, memorializing that conversation. Save a copy of EVERYTHING for yourself
✅ Report concerns properly.
✅ If you’re punished for doing the right thing you should consider contacting an employment attorney immediately.

You have the right to a safe workplace and protection from retaliation. The law is on your side.

💪 California Moms: Know Your Rights!

Just returned from maternity leave and wondering if you can pump at work?
Yes, you absolutely can!

Under California law your employer must:
✅ Provide reasonable break time to express milk.
✅ Provide a private, safe space, not a bathroom, for pumping.

This is a protected right, and your employer cannot retaliate, discriminate, or make your work environment hostile for exercising it.

If you notice that you’re being treated unfairly, denied time, or made to feel guilty for pumping:
📝 Make a paper trail.
Document every incident!!! Keep a copy for yourself of all emails, texts, and complaints to HR or management.
Save proof of any schedule changes, workload adjustments, or comments that follow your request.

Those records can make all the difference! Consult an employment attorney to protect your rights.

Because being a mom should never mean losing your job or your dignity. ❤️

⚖️ Did You Know?

Even temporary conditions like recovering from surgery, pregnancy-related complications, or an injury can qualify for reasonable accommodations under California law.

That means your employer may be required to:
✅ Adjust your schedule for medical appointments
✅ Provide light-duty or modified work
✅ Offer remote or hybrid work (when feasible)
✅ Allow time off to recover without retaliation

If your employer ignores your request, refuses to discuss options, or pressures you to quit that could violate your rights under California law.

💬 You have the right to an interactive process, a real conversation about what support you need to work.

If your employer shuts that down, we can help.
