The coroner ruled Zona Shue's death a natural one. The community came to believe there was nothing natural about it....

Do you think Mary J. Heaster really received supernatural insight from her daughter's spirit? Or did she create the story to justify her hunch about her beloved daughter's terrifying last moments?

(To be fair to the lawyers involved, prosecution avoided bringing up the phantasmal testimony. Defense attempted to draw it out of Mary J. Heaster, who boldly stuck to her story. In the final analysis, Zona's injuries, Erasmus's suspicious behavior following her death, and his mysterious past were what led the jury to conviction.)

Ok, this one might be a stretch for the Halloween series. But it sounds cool.

"Vampire rule" laws invoke the common trope in vampire mythology about their ability to enter a property. Legend has it, a vampire cannot enter a property without permission. They must be invited in. From Dracula to Sinners, it's a charmingly sinister layer in the lore.

The laws themselves are less sensational. Usually involving concealed-carry guns these days, the crux of "vampire rule" debates is whose rights are protected, and whether those rights supersede others.

Contract law isn't for the faint of heart.

When Defendant Dr. McGee promised Plaintiff George Hawkins a "one hundred per cent good hand", nobody, except perhaps Dr. McGee, could have expected what happened after surgery.

Dr. McGee was eager to practice skin grafting, and persuaded the Hawkins family that he could use the technique to mend scar tissue on Hawkins's hand. But because Dr. McGee grafted skin from Hawkins's chest, the palm of Hawkins's hand began growing chest hair.

Would you agree with the court that Hawkins was entitled to damages?
