Going through a divorce is one of those life moments where everything is shifting at once; relationships, finances, and long-term plans.

One thing that often gets overlooked is your will.

People assume that once divorce starts, everything automatically updates. It doesn’t.

In many cases, your existing will is still legally valid during the divorce process, which means it may still reflect decisions you made when your life looked very different. That can create real uncertainty if something unexpected happens before the divorce is final.

This is where a holding will can be helpful.

A holding will is a temporary will put in place during the divorce process. It’s used to:

* make sure your current wishes are clear right now
* reduce the risk of your old will controlling decisions you no longer agree with
* protect children or dependants during a period of legal change
* give structure and certainty while everything else is being resolved

It’s not about locking in forever decisions, it’s about making sure there are no gaps or unintended outcomes while your situation is in transition.

Once the divorce is final, a more permanent will can be made to reflect your new circumstances.

It’s a simple step, but an important one in a complicated time.

Thinking about the future isn’t always easy but planning ahead can make a huge difference.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) lets you choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you’re ever unable to do so yourself.

There are two types:
• Health & Welfare – decisions about medical care and daily wellbeing
• Property & Financial Affairs – decisions about money, bills, and property

Having an LPA in place means:
✅ Your wishes are respected
✅ Your loved ones can step in when needed
✅ Important decisions don’t get delayed

It’s not just for later in life — accidents and illness can happen at any time. Putting an LPA in place gives you and your family peace of mind.

If you’re thinking about setting one up or want to learn more, feel free to get in touch.

Today is a reminder to continue supporting, empowering, and uplifting women — not just today, but every day.

📢 Divorced but still financially tied? Or going through a Divorce but not dealt with the finances; Let’s fix that.

At HS Legal, we often meet clients who assume that once the divorce is final, everything is sorted. But here’s the truth: without a Consent Order, your ex can still make financial claims—even years later.

💼 A Consent Order is a legally binding document that confirms your financial agreement and provides what’s called a clean break. It protects your:
✔️ Property
✔️ Pensions
✔️ Savings
✔️ Future income

Even if everything was agreed amicably, or there’s “nothing to split,” a Consent Order brings peace of mind and long-term security.

💬 It’s one of the most important (and often overlooked) steps after divorce.

🔍 Understanding Child Custody: What Every Parent Should Know 👨‍👩‍👧

When parents separate, one of the most important (and often emotional) issues to resolve is who the child will live with and how much time they’ll spend with each parent.

In family law, this is called child custody — but legally, it’s often referred to as “child arrangements”. 🧸

➡️ It’s not about “winning” custody. It’s about what’s best for the child.
➡️ Both parents are encouraged to be involved, as long as it’s safe and healthy.
➡️ If parents can’t agree, the court can step in — but mediation is often a helpful first step.

Whether you’re facing separation or just planning ahead, knowing your rights (and responsibilities) is crucial.

💬 Need advice on child arrangements or co-parenting plans? We’re here to help.

👩‍⚖️ Planning ahead is a powerful act of care.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to legally appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf — whether for your health & welfare, or property & finances — if you’re ever unable to do so yourself.

Too often, people think LPAs are only for the elderly. In reality, an accident or illness can strike at any age. Having an LPA in place means:
✅ You choose who makes decisions
✅ You avoid costly court delays
✅ You protect your loved ones from uncertainty

💡It’s about peace of mind — for you and your family.

If you’re not sure where to start, I can help guide you through the process with clarity and care.
