We were pleased to sponsor and participate in Generate 2026, hosted by the Clean Energy Association of British Columbia in Vancouver.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity for leaders across the clean energy sector to come together and discuss the future of renewable energy development in British Columbia.

Last week, Sabrina Spencer moderated the panel, “Regulatory Update: Modernizing Permitting for Renewables,” which explored ongoing efforts to streamline BC’s permitting framework while maintaining strong environmental and regulatory standards.

Bill 9, Municipal Accountability Act, 2026, Ontario’s long-gestating municipal accountability reform legislation, was finally given third reading in the legislative assembly on May 26, 2026, and passed on a vote of 110 to 1. Royal assent is still required for the bill to become law.

In their latest article, John Mascarin and Laura Dean examine the legislation and argue that, despite its stated goal of strengthening municipal accountability, it may undermine local autonomy and create an impractically high threshold for removing elected officials from office.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) recently appointed a receiver over the assets, undertakings and properties of International Trucking Inc. and its related entity, in order to advance a competing application under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.

The order was made on application by Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in respect of approximately $11 million in indebtedness secured against substantially all of the respondents’ assets.
