🇨🇦 CAN YOU SPONSOR YOUR ADULT CHILD TO CANADA?

Yes, in certain circumstances, an adult child can still qualify as a dependent child for Canadian permanent residence.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who can qualify?

An adult child may be considered a dependent if:

✅ They are under 22 and are not married or in a common-law relationship; or

✅ They are 22 or older but cannot financially support themselves because of a physical or mental condition and have been financially dependent on their parents since before age 22.

🇨🇦 Who can sponsor?

The sponsor must generally be:

✔️ 18 or older
✔️ A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian
✔️ Able to meet the sponsorship requirements and provide financial support

Permanent residents must live in Canada throughout the sponsorship process.

💡 Important!

Being over 18 doesn’t automatically mean your child cannot be sponsored. The definition of a «dependent child» under Canadian immigration rules is what matters.

Financial support obligations also apply. For a child aged 22 or under, the undertaking generally lasts 10 years or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first. For a child over 22 who qualifies because of a physical or mental condition, the undertaking is generally three years.

At Immigration Vector, we can help you:

✅ Assess your family’s eligibility
✅ Review your supporting documents
✅ Prepare your sponsorship application
✅ Avoid common mistakes and omissions

🇨🇦 Great news for skilled workers and international graduates in Ontario!

Ontario has officially opened intake for its new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS), giving eligible candidates a new opportunity to work toward Permanent Residence through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Eligible candidates can now submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Ontario’s e-Filing Portal.

📌 What’s new?

✅ The new stream includes three pathways:

Higher-Skilled Workers

IRCC has introduced stricter financial checks for study permit applications. Applicants must now provide stronger evidence that they have enough money to cover their tuition, living expenses, and other costs while studying in Canada.

📌 What does this mean for future students?

✅ Your proof of funds must be complete, accurate, and easy to verify.

✅ Inconsistent or insufficient financial documents could result in processing delays or even a refusal.

✅ It’s more important than ever to prepare your application carefully before submitting it.

💡 A strong study permit application isn’t just about receiving an acceptance letter, it’s also about proving you can successfully support yourself during your studies.

🇨🇦 Canada continues to expand its immigration pathways!

IRCC has held its first-ever Express Entry draw for Skilled Military Recruits, marking the launch of a new category-based pathway to Permanent Residence. This specialized draw invited 4 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 368.

📌 What does this mean?

✅ Canada is continuing to introduce targeted immigration pathways to address specific labour market and national priorities.

✅ This new category is designed for eligible foreign military personnel who have been recruited by the Canadian Armed Forces and meet the requirements of an Express Entry program.

✅ It also highlights Canada’s ongoing use of category-based Express Entry draws, creating more tailored immigration opportunities for qualified candidates.

💼 Planning Your Path to PR?

Canada’s passport has once again been recognized as one of the world’s most powerful passports, ranking ahead of the U.S. passport in the latest global passport index. Canadian passport holders enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more than 180 destinations worldwide, making international travel easier than ever.

📌 Why does this matter?

✅ Greater travel freedom for Canadian citizens

✅ Easier access to hundreds of destinations for business, tourism, and family visits

✅ Another advantage of becoming a Canadian permanent resident and, eventually, a Canadian citizen

While a passport isn’t the only reason to immigrate, it’s one more example of the opportunities that come with building your future in Canada.

🇨🇦 Great news for French-speaking immigration candidates!

Canada continues to prioritize French-language proficiency through category-based Express Entry draws. A recent draw invited candidates with a CRS score below 400, creating new opportunities for eligible French speakers to apply for Permanent Residence.

📌 Why does this matter?

✅ If you have strong French language skills, you may qualify for dedicated Express Entry draws with lower CRS score requirements than many general draws.

✅ Even if your CRS score isn’t competitive for a general draw, French proficiency could significantly improve your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

✅ Canada continues to support Francophone immigration outside Quebec, making French one of the most valuable skills for many immigration applicants.

At Immigration Vector, we’ll help you make the most of every immigration opportunity.

📢 Friendly reminder for international students in Canada!

Understanding your work authorization is essential to maintaining your study permit status and avoiding future immigration issues.

Here’s a quick refresher on the current rules:

📌 While classes are in session:

✅ Off-campus work: Up to 24 hours per week

✅ On-campus work: Unlimited hours (if you meet the eligibility requirements)

🌞 During scheduled school breaks:

✅ You can work unlimited hours if you’re eligible and will return to full-time studies after the break.

⚠️ Don’t risk your future!

Working more than 24 hours per week off campus during your academic term can violate the conditions of your study permit. This could affect future applications for:
❌ Study permit extensions
❌ Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP)
❌ Work permits
❌ Permanent Residence

💼 Need Help Understanding the Rules?

At Immigration Vector, we’re here to help you stay compliant and plan your future in Canada.

We can assist with:
✅ Study Permit Extensions
✅ PGWP Applications
✅ Work Permits
✅ Permanent Residence Pathways
✅ Immigration Strategy & Consultations

🚨 Important update for families hoping to reunite in Canada.

The Canadian government has announced that new applications for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) are no longer being accepted. This decision is part of the government’s efforts to manage application inventories and processing times. While existing applications will continue to be processed, there is currently no intake for new PGP applications.

📌 What does this mean?

❌ If you were planning to submit a new PGP application, you’ll need to wait until the government announces a future intake.

✅ If you’ve already received an invitation and submitted your application, your application will continue to be processed.

✈️ Need your parents or grandparents to visit Canada? The Super Visa remains available, allowing eligible parents and grandparents to visit Canada for extended periods while future sponsorship opportunities are awaited.
