🚨 IRCC has updated its processing times - and the wait can now range from 12 days to 416 days 🇨🇦
Some temporary residence applications are being processed relatively quickly, while others are facing much longer waits.
📈 Two notable changes:
⏳ Visitor Record extensions are now showing a processing time of 416 days - a significant wait for visitors looking to extend their stay in Canada.
🎓 Study Permit applications from India have increased to 7 weeks, up from 5 weeks in the previous update.
⚠️ These are IRCC estimates, not guarantees, and processing times can change.

🎟️ ITAs issued: 562
This is the lowest PNP draw score of 2026 so far, dropping 47 points from the previous PNP draw.

It was also IRCC’s 50th Express Entry draw of 2026. So far this year, 7,961 ITAs have been issued through PNP-specific draws.

Thinking about Ontario PR through the new OINP Workforce Priority Stream? Your qualifications matter - but so does your employer. And this part trips up a lot of people.

Here’s what your Ontario employer needs to qualify:
📅 At least 3 years in business.
🏢 A real physical location in Ontario
A registered address isn’t enough. The employer must have an actual place of business in the province. Fully remote companies without a physical Ontario presence are not eligible.
💰 Minimum revenue - based on location
— Greater Toronto Area: $1,000,000+
— Major cities (Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Waterloo): $500,000+
— Everywhere else in Ontario: $250,000+
This is one of the most common disqualifiers - especially for smaller businesses outside the GTA who don’t track their revenue against immigration requirements.
👥 Must already employ Canadians or PRs
— GTA employers: minimum 5 full-time employees who are Canadian citizens or PRs
— Outside GTA: minimum 3 full-time employees

And a few more things worth knowing:
— The job offer must be full-time and permanent - contract or seasonal positions don’t count
— The employer must have a clean record - no outstanding violations under Ontario’s Employment Standards Act or Occupational Health and Safety Act
— The employer cannot be in the business of placing workers with other employers (i.e. staffing agencies have additional restrictions)
⚠️ Important: even if YOU meet every eligibility requirement, if your employer doesn’t — your application cannot move forward. That’s why checking employer eligibility early is just as important as checking your own.

A work permit is NOT the same as a visa🇨🇦✈️

A work or study permit allows you to legally stay in Canada, but it doesn’t automatically give you the right to re-enter Canada after travelling abroad. Your visa (TRV) may be what you need to return to Canada.

💡 What makes this draw stand out: BC just received 1,000 extra nomination spots, bringing its total 2026 allocation to 6,254. That's a significant boost - and it's already translating into larger, more frequent draws.

🎯 This particular round targeted two types of candidates:
💰 Those with a high-paying job offer ($55+/hour in a TEER 0–3 occupation)
📊 Those with strong registration scores (132+ points)

With 8,306 candidates currently in the pool, the competition is real - but so is the opportunity, especially if your score is above 130 👀

🇫🇷 CRS score of 382. Zero years of Canadian experience required. 5,000 people just got invited to apply for PR.

That’s the lowest CRS score for this category since March 2025, and 9 points lower than the previous French draw only two weeks ago.

Here’s what happened:
📅 Draw held: August 19, 2026
🎯 CRS cutoff: 382 - lowest since March 2025
📩 Invitations issued: 5,000
⏱️ Only candidates who created their Express Entry profile before March 1, 2026 made the cut

The bigger picture - this isn’t a one-off:
French-language draws have been trending down all year. Compare that to general Express Entry draws (Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominees), which are still sitting well above 500-700+.

📊 So far in 2026, IRCC has held 10 French-language draws — more than any other category - and issued over 50,500 invitations through this route alone, making it the single biggest source of Express Entry invitations this year, ahead of Canadian Experience Class.

Why we keep talking about this:
For a lot of candidates sitting in the pool with a CRS score that isn’t competitive under general draws, French-language proficiency is quietly becoming one of the most realistic and accessible paths to an invitation - not a «nice to have,» but a genuine strategy. You don’t need to be fluent - a solid NCLC 7+ result across all four abilities is often enough to unlock this category.

Yes, you can use your Quebec work experience for Express Entry, BUT... 👇

Express Entry is for immigrants planning to live anywhere in Canada except Quebec. If your current address or job is in Montreal, the IRCC officer needs solid proof that you are actually packing up and leaving.

Here is how you prove your “Intent to Reside” in another province:

Job Hunts: Proof of applying for jobs in Ontario, Alberta, BC, etc. (emails, interviews, job offers).

Networking: Correspondence with recruiters or professional connections in your target province.

Ending Quebec Ties: Proof you are not renewing your lease in Quebec, or listing your property for sale.

Moving Prep: Researching schools, looking at housing markets, or a signed lease in the new province.

Letter of Explanation: A clear, logical letter explaining exactly why, when, and how you are moving out of Quebec.

Don’t leave it to chance! The burden of proof is on YOU.
