🇨🇦 IMPORTANT 2026 UPDATE: CANADA’S BUSINESS IMMIGRATION PROGRAMS ARE PAUSED
If you were planning to immigrate to Canada through the Start-Up Visa or Self-Employed Persons Program, there are important changes you should know about.
🔴 START-UP VISA PROGRAM
* The Start-Up Visa Program has been paused since June 30, 2026.
* Canada is not accepting new applications, except for certain applicants with a valid 2025 commitment certificate who met the June 30 deadline.
* Applications received before the pause will continue to be processed.
* Some eligible existing applicants may still be able to apply for or extend an open work permit while their application is processed.
🔴 SELF-EMPLOYED PERSONS PROGRAM
* The Self-Employed Persons Program is also paused indefinitely.
* It is designed for people with relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics who can make a significant contribution to Canada.
* Existing applications continue to be processed, but processing capacity is limited.
