When the system moved too slowly, Thomson Rogers LLP Partner Matt Sutton didn't wait. He pushed to get his client's story told, and it worked.

A new The Toronto Star public editor column credits Matt with helping bring his client's story of loss and delayed justice to light, after her husband was killed in a crash allegedly caused by a stunt driver.

As lawyer Daniel Garas explains, choking remains one of the leading causes of accidental death among infants, but many incidents can be prevented with simple precautions.

Small toys and toys with removable parts can pose serious risks for children under one year old, as they can easily be placed in a child's mouth and obstruct their airway.

Watch as Daniel shares important safety tips to help parents and caregivers create a safer environment for young children.

"My client doesn't get a reset," Thomson Rogers LLP partner Matt Sutton told The Toronto Star.

His client, a Mississauga mother, lost her husband when an alleged stunt driver ran a red light in November 2024. She survived with permanent injuries. He did not.

The driver was charged with dangerous driving causing death. Nearly two years later, out on bail awaiting trial, he was arrested again, this time for stunt driving near the family's home.

As Sutton put it, "the system has done almost nothing to change the conditions that made that possible."

A man is dead. The accused is still on the road. The court case that could bring answers and accountability remains stalled. Matt is calling on the justice system to treat cases like this with the urgency they demand.

As e-scooters become more common across Ontario, many riders are unaware that if a crash occurs, obtaining compensation can be far more complicated than in a traditional motor vehicle accident. With inconsistent municipal rules and insurance gaps, injured riders and pedestrians can find themselves in legal limbo.
