🇨🇦 A major proposed change to Canada’s business tax system could change how businesses claim deductions on new investments.
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government has announced the proposed Productivity Mega Deduction, which would make immediate expensing permanent for most eligible depreciable property acquired on or after September 15, 2026. The proposal would expand the range of assets that can qualify, including certain machinery, equipment, software, R&D, vehicles, infrastructure and more.
But there’s an important catch: not every investment qualifies, and the measure is a proposed legislative change with specific exclusions and rules.
Before making a purchase expecting a tax deduction, make sure you understand the eligibility requirements.
