As of Oct 1, 2025, Ontario’s Small Claims Court limit increased from $35,000 → $50,000. That’s good news: more disputes can now be resolved in a faster, more cost-effective forum.
Having practiced in Small Claims Court for 15 years I've seen the missed opportunities. Raising the limit narrows that gap and helps preserve value for claimants. Cases over $50K will still go to Superior Court, so it’s important to weigh the cost–benefit of proceeding there versus adjusting your claim to stay in Small Claims.
If you have a matter, you’re unsure about, whether to take it to Small Claims or what the next steps are, you’re welcome to reach out to me. I’m happy to help you find a solution.
