Why do regulatory bodies matter in immigration? πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

According to Lou Janssen Dangzalan - Canadian Immigration Lawyer, one of the most important protections available to clients is professional regulation and oversight.

Immigration lawyers and immigration consultants are subject to professional standards and codes of conduct that govern how they serve clients.

These standards help ensure that practitioners meet their professional obligations and maintain ethical conduct.

If a professional fails to meet those standards, there are regulatory bodies that can investigate complaints and, where appropriate, impose disciplinary measures.

Some key points:

β€’ Lawyers are regulated by provincial and territorial law societies
β€’ Immigration consultants are regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC)
β€’ Both professions are subject to professional rules and standards
β€’ Regulatory bodies provide a process for addressing complaints about professional misconduct

Before hiring a representative, it is always important to verify that they are properly licensed and in good standing with their regulatory body.

Already received a provincial nomination certificate? πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

According to Lou Janssen Dangzalan, some provincial nominees may qualify for a work permit supported by their nomination.

In many cases, once a provincial nomination application is approved and supported by an employer, the province may issue a work permit support letter. This can allow the applicant to apply for a T13 LMIA-exempt work permit.

Unlike a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP), this type of bridging work permit is employer-specific, meaning it is tied to the supporting employer.

Generally, the process may involve:
β€’ A provincial nomination certificate
β€’ A work permit support letter
β€’ Employer submission through the IRCC Employer Portal
β€’ Payment of the employer compliance fee
β€’ Issuance of an offer of employment number needed for the work permit application

This pathway may help certain applicants continue working in Canada while progressing toward permanent residence.

Many Filipinos are choosing to study in Canada first β€” and there’s a good reason why.

Becoming an international student can increase your Express Entry points, giving you a stronger chance at permanent residency later. 🎯

It’s more than just a study program. With the right course, you can also qualify for a post-graduation work permit, gaining Canadian work experience β€” a key requirement for PR.
Think of it as a stepping stone: study β†’ work β†’ permanent residency.

Plan your pathway strategically. Every step counts.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Where in Canada Do You Have the Best Chance of Obtaining PR?

Many people ask this question when planning their pathway to Permanent Residence in Canada.

The reality is that there is no single β€œbest” province for everyone. Each province has different priorities, immigration streams, and labor market needs. What works for one applicant may not work for another.

Understanding how provincial priorities work can help you make a more strategic decision about where to live and work in Canada.

and reversed after thorough and relentless reconsideration process!

Some immigration victories are more than approvals.

Some feel like survival.

Over the past few months, a young family went through one of the most painful and emotionally exhausting experiences of their lives.

A work permit refusal triggered another refusal. Suddenly, both parents lost work authorization. Income stopped. Bills began piling up. Anxiety grew every single day.

Timeline of events:

β€’ May 9 2025 – PGWP application submitted
β€’ February 6 2026 – PGWP refused
β€’ Work authorization lost
β€’ Financial pressure and uncertainty intensified
β€’ February 17 2026 – Officer notes reviewed and reconsideration strategy prepared
β€’ Reconsideration request submitted immediately
β€’ February 25 2026 – PGWP application reopened
β€’ February 27 2026 – PGWP APPROVED
β€’ Spousal Open Work Permit reconsideration pursued afterward
β€’ During the process the couple welcomed their baby into the world
β€’ Final result – Spousal Open Work Permit APPROVED πŸŽ‰

This family never gave up despite every reason to feel defeated.

And this case reminded me again that immigration law is not just forms and policies. Behind every file are real people carrying real fears, responsibilities, and dreams.

Sometimes the emotional weight of immigration is invisible until you sit with families through moments like these.

To everyone currently struggling through refusals, delays, uncertainty, or fear:

Please do not lose hope too quickly.

Sometimes the first answer is not the final answer.
Sometimes reconsideration works.
Sometimes doors reopen.
Sometimes families finally get to breathe again after months of fear.

Today, this family can finally hold their baby with peace in their hearts knowing they can move forward together. πŸ’›

I thank them wholeheartedly for their trust in me during this process. I thank Atty Lou Janssen Dangzalan of https://www.ljd-law.ca/ for his help and guidance as well.

How long does it really take to become a Permanent Resident in Canada? πŸ€”πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

The answer isn’t one-size-fits-all. It depends on the program, the steps before you even apply, and whether a provincial nomination is involved. Processing times can vary β€” and understanding the full timeline is key to planning your move strategically.

In this reel, Lou Janssen Dangzalan - Canadian Immigration Lawyer breaks down what applicants need to know about PR timelines and why expectations should be realistic.
