From law school to practice and back to share lessons along the way.

Walker Law Associate Tawfiq Kuttab returned to his alma mater, Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, on October 19 for “From Law School to Practice,” a panel hosted by the Middle Eastern and North African Law Students’ Association (MENALSA).

Alongside Catalina Karam, Mariam Jammal and Joseph Zayouna, Tawfiq shared insights from his professional journey, experiences navigating the legal profession and advice for aspiring lawyers.

A great discussion on Canadian franchise performance at the American Bar Association Association’s 49th Annual Forum on Franchising in Toronto.

Tanya Walker joined Larry Weinberg and Abhishek Dube for their workshop, “Cross-Border, Crossed Wires: The Hidden Drivers of Canadian Franchise Performance.”

The discussion looked beyond market entry to a key question: why do some U.S. brands thrive in Canada while others struggle?

Together, they explored the legal and business differences that shape franchise performance, from provincial disclosure requirements and IP protection to supply chains, pricing, bilingual expectations and dispute resolution.

Walker Law team members joined fellow legal professionals at the Canadian Legal Summit on October 14 at The Carlu in Toronto.

It was a day to connect, share ideas, and reflect on the changes shaping our profession. Conversations covered the practical benefits and limitations of AI, ways to support and develop strong teams, and how firms can better meet clients’ evolving needs. The sessions also explored what makes partnerships between in-house counsel and law firms work well: trust, clear expectations, and thoughtful advice.

We’re glad members of our team had the opportunity to connect with colleagues and bring fresh perspectives back to our team.

Our Managing Partner, Tanya Walker will lead "Legal Essentials for Independent Journalists" as part of the Canadian Association of Black Journalists and Communicators Media Bootcamp, supporting the next generation of Black Canadian journalists.

Taking place on December 3 at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom, the session will explore defamation, privacy, and the legal considerations involved in gathering information, interviewing sources, investigating stories, and publishing.

Drawing on 20 years of legal experience, Tanya will share practical insights to help journalists identify potential legal risks before and after publication.
