Governor Tiff Macklem noted in the accompanying statement that this steady policy stance remains appropriate to foster sustainable economic growth while navigating a complex environment marked by persistent global uncertainties, including escalating geopolitical tensions from the conflict in the Middle East and potential disruptions from ongoing trade negotiations.

With inflation lingering close to the 2% target - supported by February's slightly softer-than-expected reading at 1.8% - and economists unanimously anticipating no change, the central bank is prioritizing caution to better assess evolving data on output, employment, and price dynamics before any future moves.

This continuation of the hold, following similar decisions in late 2025 and January 2026, provides welcome predictability for households and businesses amid the clouded outlook.
