Draw #450 is in. IRCC issued 5,000 invitations on October 16 under the French-Language Proficiency category.

The minimum CRS score was 435. That’s 53 points higher than the last French draw we covered ( #437, at 382), with the same number of invitations. You need a level 7 or higher in French on all four skills, tested within the last two years.

Cutoffs are rising, so your French score and your CRS both matter.

Canada’s immigration strategy has changed. If you’re on temporary status and waiting for things to work out, this matters for you.

Being in Canada doesn’t guarantee PR. But the direction is clear. Canada wants to transition some temporary residents to permanent status, specifically those who match what the country and provinces need.

The 2026 draw numbers show it. By August 21, French-language draws had issued over 50,500 invitations. The Canadian Experience Class issued 49,250.

If you’re on temporary status, learning French may be one of the strongest moves you can make right now.

Canada is selecting people who prepare. Waiting is a risky plan.

Draw #448 is in. IRCC issued 752 invitations on October 13 under the Provincial Nominee Program.

The minimum CRS score was 772. That’s 75 points higher than the last PNP draw we covered ( #438, with a cutoff of 697), even though more invitations were issued this time.

A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score. That’s why PNP cutoffs sit so high, and why a nomination is often the difference between waiting and getting invited.

Five of the 10 referendum questions in Alberta deal with immigration. The first one asks if the province should take more control over immigration to:

📉 Lower immigration to “more sustainable levels”
💼 Prioritize economic migration
🧑‍💼 Give Albertans first priority on new jobs

Here is what we know:

✅ Immigration is a shared federal and provincial responsibility. Ottawa has the final say.
✅ A “yes” vote shows support for Alberta having more power over who comes and how many. Some experts say this could look like Quebec’s model.
✅ A “no” vote means you prefer to keep immigration mainly at the federal level.

Here is what we don’t know:

❓ The province has not defined “sustainable levels.”
❓ The province has not defined who counts as an “Albertan.”
❓ The Canadian Bar Association’s Alberta branch says job priority for Albertans may raise Charter equality issues.

Also, immigration is already falling. Ottawa’s 2026 plan targets 380,000 permanent resident admissions, down from 500,000 expected for 2025. Alberta’s own nominee allocation for 2026 is 6,600.

Nothing changes in your application today. A vote does not change the rules overnight. But we are watching this closely.

Waiting on spousal PR doesn't mean waiting apart.

Dual intent lets you apply for a visitor visa while your PR application is still in process. An officer can't refuse you just because you're also hoping to stay permanently. But you do need to show real reasons to return home if the PR application doesn't work out.

We worked with a client who had no job back home. We built her case around her family's stability instead: property, income, and strong ties. That was enough to get her visitor visa approved so she could be with her spouse while she waited.

Married or common-law... The sponsorship path you take depends on your relationship status, but the scrutiny is the same either way. 🇨🇦

✅ Spousal: legally married, marriage certificate required
✅ Common-law: 12 continuous months living together, plus proof of shared residence (lease, bills, mail)
