An impaired driving conviction can cost far more than the court fine.

A CityNews report estimated the total financial impact at around $23,000, largely due to higher insurance costs, fines, towing, remedial programs, and ignition interlock expenses.

The figures are from 2018, but the takeaway still matters: an impaired driving conviction can be expensive.

Drinking and driving comes at a high price and now a new study has determined just how much a conviction will cost you. Did you know 71,602 impaired-driving incidents were reported by Canadian police in 2023. That works out to an average of about 196 police-reported incidents every day. Please remember a ride home costs a few dollars. Impaired driving can cost a life.
