TRREB’s Government Relations Committee Housing Affordability Working Group recently hosted a roundtable focused on innovative multiplex housing for ownership. The Working Group is exploring solutions and actions to make small-scale multiplex ownership more feasible and affordable for individuals and families across the City of Toronto and the region. These solutions will help TRREB in its advocacy efforts to support innovative missing-middle housing across the region.

This roundtable showcased how multiplex housing designs can help address our housing challenges through gentle density, liveability, and the innovative use of existing lots, providing an attainable way to enter the ownership market.

TRREB is urging municipalities across the GTA, Simcoe County and beyond to apply for funding through the Canada-Ontario Development Charges Reduction Program before June 19. The program can help speed up housing development, improve affordability, and support complete, sustainable communities, as development charges can amount to 20 percent of a home's price.

TRREB made submissions to Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Aurora, Barrie, the Regions of York, Peel, Halton, and Simcoe County, and, jointly with CLAR, to Durham Region and to Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering, urging them to apply.
