“Governments should take advantage of this opportunity to eliminate barriers to attainable housing, including restrictive zoning policies, high taxes and development charges, and lengthy approval processes. Municipalities, inparticular, play a significant role in determining how much housing is built, how quickly projects move forward, and the overall cost of delivering homes,” said TRREB CEO John DiMichele.

The August Market Watch is here and the market is tightening. 📊

📉 Home sales down 2.1% year-over-year
📉 New listings down 14.1%

With fewer listings and less choice for buyers, competition is increasing in some neighbourhoods. If these conditions continue, renewed price growth could be on the horizon.

Ontario's Building Code is under review — and TRREB is making sure missing middle housing is part of the conversation. 🏗️

We've submitted practical recommendations designed to make the Building Code clearer, more modern, and more supportive of the missing-middle housing Ontario communities need:

🏢 Permitting single-stair residential buildings up to six storeys
🛗 Permitting elevators within qualifying exit enclosures
📐 Modernizing elevator size and speed requirements for small apartment buildings
🔄 Establishing an annual Building Code review process

Small changes to the code. Big impact on housing supply.
