As a lawyer and a proud member of the Armenian-Canadian community, I implore you to join me in a united call to action over the escalating crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The harsh reality is that 120,000 Armenians are being deprived of essential resources amid an ongoing blockade for the past seven (7) months. Over 400 tons of critical humanitarian aid - verified and intended to alleviate the suffering of these innocent civilians - has been unjustly declared a 'provocation.' This is a dire situation that requires immediate attention and swift action.

The time for diplomacy and assertion of human rights is NOW. We need to amplify this concern and ensure it echoes through the halls of global diplomacy.

Toronto property owners, don't miss the deadline! The City of Toronto's Vacant Home Tax is now in effect and failure to declare your residential property's occupancy status by Feb 2nd, 2023 could result in an annual tax being levied on your vacant home.

Breaking any of the bylaw provisions may result in a fine ranging from $250 to $10,000 for each offence, including:

• Failure to make a Declaration
• Making false or deceptive statements in a declaration
• Altering, hiding or disposing of records
• Making false entries or omitting information

The Bank of Canada raised its key policy rate half a point today, taking it to 3.75 per cent.

This marks the sixth consecutive interest rate hike by the bank since March as it attempts to tame high inflation, which surged 6.9 per cent in September compared to a year earlier — well ahead of the Bank of Canada’s goal of keeping inflation at two per cent.

The Bank of Canada delivered a fourth consecutive outsized interest-rate hike in a bid to slow the nation’s economy and drag inflation down from four-decade highs.

Policy makers led by Governor Tiff Macklem raised the benchmark overnight rate by 75 basis points to 3.25 per cent on Wednesday, giving Canada’s central bank the highest policy rate among major advanced economies. Officials said they expect to continue raising rates in coming months.

“Given the outlook for inflation, governing council still judges that the policy interest rate will need to rise further,” officials said in the statement.
