🇱🇨 Happy Creole Heritage Month! 🇱🇨
October marks a month-long celebration of Saint Lucia’s Kwéyòl language, culture, and heritage, proudly celebrated this year under the theme “Kwéyòl-la Sé Sa Nou Tout” (Kwéyòl Belongs to All of Us).
To carry Creole heritage is to carry a living history. It means walking with the resilience of ancestors who crafted a beautiful, vibrant culture out of strength, endurance, and unity. It’s in the cadence of our native tongue, the movement of the traditional Wob Dwiyèt, and the undeniable warmth of our community.
This entire month builds toward the ultimate highlight: Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day). Hands down one of my absolute favourite food holidays! Though it’s more than just gathering over green fig and saltfish, or breadfruit, and smoked herring, it’s a delicious feast of remembrance, honouring the ingenuity and heart of those who paved the way.
Let’s embrace the theme, keep the culture alive, and honour the heritage that unites us all.
Mèsi anpil, ek Bòn Fèt Kwéyòl!
