🇨🇦 Important Update for International Students – 2026 Study Permit Changes
Canada is continuing to tighten the number of international students it allows each year. Since the study permit cap was introduced in 2024, the total number of study permit holders has dropped significantly.
For 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada plans to issue fewer study permits than in previous years, with a reduced number for new students and stricter limits overall. The goal is to bring Canada’s temporary resident population below 5% by 2027.
What does this change mean for students?
✔️ Fewer approvals
✔️ More competition
