Welcome Back, Chanelle Gervais!
We are pleased to welcome Chanelle Gervais back to Meunier Carrier Lawyers on a temporary basis as a Student-at-Law as she prepares for her upcoming Call to the Bar and the next chapter of her legal career in Toronto.
Chanelle graduated from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University in May 2026, with a specialization in Indigenous and Aboriginal Law. She successfully completed her Bar examinations in June 2026 and is looking forward to her Call to the Bar on October 19, 2026.
Throughout law school, Chanelle developed a broad range of legal, advocacy, and practical experience. She represented Bora Laskin at both the Wilson Moot, where she competed in constitutional law, and the Willms & Shier Environmental Law Moot.
Chanelle also gained hands-on experience through the law school's Community Legal Services Clinic, working on employment, landlord and tenant, and small claims matters. She worked with the law school's Intellectual Property Clinic and served as a Dean's Fellow Teaching Assistant, supporting students in Foundations of Canadian Law and Tort Law.
As part of her Integrated Practice Placement, Chanelle worked at Taylor Oballa Murray Leyland LLP in Toronto, gaining experience in entertainment and corporate law. Her academic work also reflected her particular interest in personal injury and insurance law, including a substantial directed research paper examining Ontario's motor vehicle accident compensation and insurance systems.
Following law school, Chanelle had the opportunity to travel through Nepal and South India, experiencing new cultures and traditions. A particularly memorable highlight of her travels was the opportunity to meet the Dalai Lama.
During her time back with Meunier Carrier Lawyers, Chanelle will assist with a number of special projects and ongoing matters. During Jay's leave from the office, she will also work closely with David Carrier and Matthew Graine to assist with the continued management of files and the day-to-day needs of our clients.
Having previously worked with us, Chanelle is already familiar with our firm, our practice, and many of our clients. We are delighted to have her back with the team during this transitional period and to provide her with an opportunity to continue developing her experience, particularly in Personal Injury Law, before she moves to Toronto to begin the next stage of her legal career.
