It is an honour to promote and support the wonderful, inspirational and determined athletes of Special Olympics and their families. The abilities and friendships are a delight to be a part of.

Congratulations to the eight inductees into the LETR Oceania Region 'Norm Maroney Hall of Fame'.

The inductees have a combined total of almost 150 years of service to the Law Enforcement Torch Run movements in their jurisdictions - service that has resulted in better outcomes for Special Olympics athletes in both Australia and New Zealand.

Well deserved recognition in every case.

Vale - Rebecca Jones

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our Board Member, Basketball Umpire, Communications Officer and Program Volunteer - Rebecca Jones, following a short battle with cancer.

Rebecca was a deeply valued and dedicated volunteer with Special Olympics South Australia and a much-loved member of the inclusive basketball community. Her commitment, service, and passion will be profoundly missed.

Our community will especially miss her beautiful, bubbly, and uniquely quirky personality — she truly was our sunshine.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Rebecca’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her during this difficult time.

The family has expressed their gratitude for the kindness and condolences received and has advised that Rebecca’s service will be held privately, in accordance with her wishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a small donation may be made in Rebecca’s name to Ambulance Wish SA or Laurel Hospice at Flinders Medical Centre.

Introducing superstar Mia,

What an honour — we are so proud of you, Mia!

Mia Woods has been a Special Olympics South Australia athlete for many years, representing our state at both State and National Games. In 2022, Mia was one of four South Australian athletes selected to represent Australia at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.

Eastern Fleurieu R–12 School has proudly renamed its R–6 Sports Awards in celebration of the outstanding achievements of past and present student athletes.

The Athlete of the Year – Year 6 Sports Award now honours Mia Woods, who has proudly represented both South Australia and Australia in basketball at the Special Olympics. Mia currently supports our R–6 Campus Library and continues to exemplify team spirit, perseverance, and dedication.
