BUSINESS FOR THE NEXT MONTH - we have listened to the recommendation and will be working remotely and or from home until mid-February. We will be fully operational and you’ll be able to access us via phone, video conferencing and email. We will re-assess the situation in due course.

NEW TEAM MEMBER - We welcome you all to 2022 and with a new year brings a new beginning, a new team member. Meet labrador Tag. He’ll be gracing us with his presence during 2022 and we hope that the team helps Tag become a fully fledged guide dog one day. We also look forward to the mental health benefits of having a dog around work!

Wishing you all a healthy, peaceful and successful 2022, bring it on!

As life moves more and more online, Directors will soon be required to obtain their own identification numbers - if you want to become a director or are already one, you'll need one. Applications for these commence in November 2021 (for newly appointed directors) and transitional measures for existing directors.

All directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation will need a director identification number (director ID).

The state where our Head Office is currently located will be in fact going back into a temporary COVID lockdown - more information can be found below. Our thoughts are with our all our friends and contacts. For us, our (virtual) enterprise including our group of lawyers under the Law Link Group banner is thankfully carrying on business as usual for anyone that needs us. We are all here for you.

As you are probably now aware South Australia will be implementing a circuit breaker from 12:01 am Thursday, 19 November 2020 for the next 6 days aiming to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our state.

Behind the scenes we have been involved in the organising committee for The Tax Institute Tax Summit in Sydney at the International Convention Centre Sydney - ICC Sydney with circa 1,400 people attending. This is happening as we post.

As part of the Tax Summit, with the help of many, we express some of our views on the current tax environment.

Leo Efthivoulou, Director at ENA Law, discusses how new regulations will shake up traditional methods of tax practice, and whether he is a fan or foe of Top Hatting.

800+ responded.

2 questions of interest are:

1. Change negative gearing

Some very big changes have been recommended in the banking, financing and insurance space.

Only time will tell if and when they will become Bills and in what form!

After seven rounds of public hearings over 68 days, financial services royal commissioner Kenneth Hayne last week handed his final report to the government. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg released the report to the public on Monday.

The banking royal commission report has come out throwing punches!

Action will be taken on all 75+ recommendations made.

Watch this space.
