At our recently concluded Wine Roadshow 29, discussions were around a number of factors that have tested and will continue to test the industry’s resilience – yet again! There were droughts, fires and Chinese tariffs and then, after a bumper harvest in 2021, there was storm damage in the Barossa and Riverland and there will likely be an oversupply of red grapes and wine in 2022, along with shipping disruption and a labour shortage.

Finlaysons’ Wine Partner, Will Taylor, was quoted in InDaily talking about the impact of China’s tariffs on bottled wine. He said they’ve ‘dealt a massive blow, but the industry needs to look for positives’. “There has been some good growth in some markets and really what needs to happen is post COVID – when they can do it – Australian winemakers need to get over to those markets and pound the pavements,” he said.

Last night, Finlaysons Lawyers hosted the Women Lawyers' Association of SA professional development session on ‘Sexual Harassment and the Requirement for Genuine Cultural Change’. The session was led by Deslie Billich, who is an independent rule of law and human rights senior consultant. Her areas of expertise include governance, rule of law, human rights, protection of victims of crime and gender assessments. Particular to this presentation is her interest in access to justice for vulnerable sectors of the community, principally women and children. Finlaysons Lawyers is a signatory to the Charter for the Advancement of Women in the South Australian Legal Profession and was very proud to host this event.
