If you have a trust with a company as trustee (a corporate trustee), a Power of Attorney can be an important safeguard.

If the corporate trustee can’t act due to an emergency, a valid Power of Attorney can help an authorised person step in to keep things running.

If your trust already has individual trustees (people, not a company), a Power of Attorney for the trust generally won’t be the right solution.

Did you know your will doesn’t automatically control your super?

If you want to direct where your superannuation benefits go when you die, you may need a Binding Death Benefit Nomination (BDBN).

It’s sometimes described as a “will for your super”.

With a BDBN, your super fund may pay your benefits (and any insurance in the fund) to a person you nominate, or to your legal personal representative (your estate) so it can then be distributed under your will.

Choosing the right nomination can involve tax, estate planning and social security considerations—so get advice that’s right for your circumstances.
