Art - offering hope and connection to country.

For Felicity Chafer-Smith, money was a worry, one that kept her in a cycle of reoffending. But through The Torch, she was able to sell her art and set herself up for success beyond her release from prison.

Today we celebrate Mabo Day & commemorate the 30th anniversary of the historic decision by the High Court of Australia in 1992 by which the assumption that Australia had been a terra nullus (a land belonging to no one) when the European settlers came, was overturned.
Read about Eddie Mabo at the link below. He began a campaign for land rights that ended up with major law changes which recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the traditional owners of their land.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this website may contain images, voices and names of deceased persons.

MULTIPLE CASUAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE - WITH US

The Custody Notification Service (read more about it in the link below) is a 24-hour telephone hotline service, provided by ALRM.

Be a part of South Australia's most dynamic, diverse and challenging legal practices.

Contact Officer positions:

As this service is provided 24 hours per day 7 days per week, your availability for shift work, including weekends, is compulsory.
Through a 24 hour phone service, the Custody Notification Service (CNS) provides culturally appropriate wellbeing support and legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples taken into police custody in South Australia. The CNS is staffed by culturally competent, trauma informed employees.
CNS staff provide an immediate over-the-phone check to ensure that a person detained is not experiencing any serious health or welfare issues and following this check (which includes notifying the police of any immediate needs), the person detained will have access to legal advice where relevant. The CNS staff also, wherever possible, assist the person detained with referrals to relevant services including health services (including mental health), accommodation and homelessness services, and counselling services. Where the person detained has been charged with an offence and wishes ALRM to represent them, the CNS staff ensure all relevant information about the pending court date is distributed to the relevant ALRM office/staff member.
Successful applicants will have a commitment to providing access to justice, and a demonstrated empathy and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, history and culture. In addition, they will possess:
• Attention to detail
• Strong work ethic; and
• Bachelor of Laws or Cert IV Legal Studies, or a willingness to attain this.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to express interest.

Please apply by sending your resume and a cover letter to Jodie Adams at [email protected]

The Custody Notification Service is a 24 hour telephone hotline service provided by ALRM. It is available every day of the year, including public holidays.
