“STABLE” DOES NOT MEAN “PAIN FREE”

A common misunderstanding in workers’ compensation claims is:

“I’m still in pain, so I can’t have a WPI assessment.”

That isn’t necessarily how permanent impairment works.

The important issue is whether the injury has sufficiently stabilised for permanent impairment to be assessed.

You can unfortunately have ongoing pain, restrictions or symptoms even though your medical condition has reached the point where permanent impairment can be assessed.

But the opposite issue matters too.

If significant treatment or surgery is still contemplated, it may be important to consider whether the timing of an assessment is appropriate.

This is exactly why workers should understand the WPI process before simply attending the appointment.

Accepted claim?
Final WPI assessment still ahead?

🚗 INJURED IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA? DON’T RUSH TO SETTLE.

An early offer from an insurer can sound tempting — especially when you’re injured, off work and bills are piling up.

But before you accept an offer or sign anything that may affect your rights, it is worth getting independent legal advice about the full impact of your injuries and what compensation may be available.

Depending on your circumstances, a South Australian CTP claim may involve compensation for things such as:

✅ Medical and treatment expenses
✅ Past and future loss of income
✅ Rehabilitation expenses
✅ Care and assistance
✅ Pain and suffering
✅ Future losses arising from your injuries

Every claim is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all settlement figure.

I help injured South Australians understand their options, deal with insurers and make informed decisions about their claims.

WHAT EXACTLY IS ON YOUR WPI REFERRAL?

Before you attend a Whole Person Impairment assessment, there is one very simple question worth asking:

What injuries are actually being assessed?

Not what injuries you think you have.

Not every symptom you have mentioned to your doctor.

Not everything that has happened since the original injury.

What injuries are actually part of the assessment process?

That distinction can be important.

Before a final assessment, I like to look at the bigger picture:

✅ accepted injuries
✅ consequential injuries
✅ outstanding claims
✅ medical reports
✅ imaging and investigations
✅ previous injuries
✅ surgery or treatment still being considered
✅ whether the condition has stabilised

The goal is not to manufacture a higher WPI.

It is to make sure the worker understands the process and that legitimate issues are identified before the assessment is finalised.

If your claim is accepted and your WPI assessment is coming up, send me “WPI REVIEW”.

⚖️ Six Years in the Legal Profession!

October 2026 marks six years since I started my first job in the legal profession.

Looking back, it is incredible how much has changed, how much I have learned and how many wonderful people I have met along the way.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping people navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

Working predominantly in personal injury law, particularly workers compensation, has shown me just how important it is for people to have someone in their corner who will listen, understand their circumstances and fight for a fair outcome.

Being a lawyer is not easy. There have been challenges, long hours, difficult matters and plenty of lessons learned. But there have also been more incredibly rewarding moments that remind me why I chose this profession.

For me, the greatest reward has always been knowing that my work has made a genuine difference in someone’s life.

I am incredibly grateful to the mentors, colleagues, counsel, clients and friends who have supported me throughout my journey so far.

Six years on, I am just as passionate about helping people, standing up for what is right and continuing to grow both personally and professionally.

Here’s to the next chapter! ⚖️ 🍾

THE WPI DOCTOR CAN’T ACCEPT A NEW INJURY FOR YOU

This is something many injured workers do not realise.

A Whole Person Impairment assessor assesses impairment.

They are not there to determine whether another injury should be accepted as part of your workers’ compensation claim.

So imagine this:

Your original back injury is accepted.

But over time you have also developed symptoms involving another body part or another condition.

You attend your WPI assessment assuming:

“The doctor will deal with everything.”

That assumption can cause problems.

Questions about additional or consequential injuries may need to be addressed as part of the claim process rather than simply left for the impairment assessor.

That is why I would much rather review a matter before the final WPI assessment than after it.

Already have an accepted South Australian workers’ compensation claim?

Haven’t had your final WPI assessment yet?

WHOLE PERSON IMPAIRMENT ISN’T “JUST A PERCENTAGE”

If you have an accepted workers’ compensation claim, at some point you may hear:

“We’re arranging your Whole Person Impairment assessment.”

Please don’t treat that as just another medical appointment.

Your WPI assessment can be used in determining:

💰 lump sum entitlements; and

⚖️ whether you may qualify for serious injury support.

The assessment considers the permanent impairment resulting from your work injury.

That means what is being assessed — and what isn’t — matters.

The medical evidence matters.

Whether your condition has stabilised matters.

And the timing of the assessment can matter.

If your claim has already been accepted but your WPI assessment has not yet been finalised, that is a sensible time to have the process reviewed.

You do not need to wait until something goes wrong.

📩 Send me a message with “WPI” if you would like to discuss where your claim is up to.

✅ ANOTHER TPD CLAIM APPROVED

A fantastic result for one of our clients, with their Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) claim successfully approved.

For our client, this was about much more than a lump sum.

It was about getting some financial security after injury or illness had significantly affected their ability to work and earn an income.

One thing I regularly find is that people simply do not realise they may have TPD insurance sitting inside their superannuation.

You may have a potential TPD claim if:

• you have stopped working because of injury or illness
• you have significantly reduced your hours or duties
• you cannot return to your previous type of work
• you have workers compensation or another injury claim already underway
• you have TPD cover through one or more superannuation funds

And importantly — you do not necessarily need to be completely unable to ever work again.

The wording of your particular insurance policy matters.

If injury or illness has changed your working life, it is worth checking your superannuation and insurance position before assuming there is nothing available.

Very pleased we could help another client through the process and achieve a successful outcome. 🙌

⚽️ FROM SALISBURY TO THE FIFA WORLD CUP 🌏 🏆 🇦🇺

What an incredible moment for South Australia.

Nestory Irankunda, a former Parafield Gardens High School student, has become the youngest Socceroo ever to score at a FIFA World Cup.
Think about that for a moment.

A young South Australian who walked the same school corridors as many local students is now representing Australia on the biggest stage in world football and making history while doing it.

Australia's 2-0 victory over Turkey was a fantastic result, but for many of us, seeing Nestory score on his World Cup debut was something truly special.

It's a reminder that big dreams can start right here in our community.

⚽ Dream big.
⚽ Work hard.
⚽ Back yourself.

Congratulations, Nestory. You have made South Australia and Australia incredibly proud. 💚💛

Who else was cheering when he scored? 👏
