Parole for a person who MURDERED FOUR PEOPLE, one by one, including his half-brother and best friend?! This 7NEWS Adelaide report says one of the reasons for granting parole is that at the time, he was simply “obeying orders”. Where have we heard that before? The Parole Administrative Review Commissioner determined that the law was correctly followed in Vlassakis’s case. The problem is that the law needs to be changed. The first responsibility of Government is to keep its community safe, but instead it’s going to spend untold resources monitoring a convicted serial killer as he moves amongst us. The government should have anticipated the need to change the law a long time ago and should have changed the law. Instead, it has done nothing except sit on its hands and watch the process, in a world first, of releasing a serial killer from prison. 7NEWS Adelaide

Now we can wait for every murderer who kills 1, 2, or 3 people to demand release on parole on the basis that if this murderer of 4 people was released, then despite their crime, of 1,2 or 3 murders, they too must also be released. Why can’t the government, in particular the Attorney General, wake up, stir from his slumber, do his job and remove the gift of parole to murderers? It would take a very small amendment to our criminal law to keep our communities free of these dangerous criminal killers. If he can’t do it or won’t do it, then for the safety of everyone else, get rid of him and replace him with someone who knows SOMETHING about criminal law.

In an Australian first, a serial killer involved in the horrific Snowtown murders, has been allowed out on parole.
