⚖️ UAE LABOUR LAW | KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WHEN YOUR SALARY IS DELAYED

Your salary is more than just a payment—it is an employment right protected under UAE law. If your employer delays or fails to pay your wages, understanding your legal options can help you take the appropriate next steps.

📌 What should you know?

Under Article 22 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Employment Relationships, employers must pay wages on their agreed due dates in accordance with applicable regulations. Eligible private-sector employers must also comply with the Wage Protection System (WPS) requirements.

If your salary remains unpaid, keep copies of your employment contract, bank statements, payslips, and written communications with your employer. You may raise a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), where applicable, to seek resolution.

⚖️ UAE CRIMINAL LAW UPDATE | ATTEMPTED SU***DE AND CRIMINAL LIABILITY

The UAE Government announced amendments to the Crimes and Penalties Law on 8 October 2026, introducing an important change to the legal treatment of attempted su***de and establishing clearer, graduated penalties for individuals who incite or assist another person to take their own life.

📌 What are the key changes?

🔹 1. Attempted Su***de Is No Longer a Criminal Offence

Under the announced amendment, attempting su***de itself is no longer punishable by criminal penalties. The change reflects a shift towards prevention, treatment, early intervention, and humanitarian support, encouraging people experiencing psychological crises to seek help without fear of criminal prosecution.

🔹 2. Penalties for Inciting or Assisting Su***de

The law introduces penalties based on the outcome of the conduct:

▪️ Attempt without death: Detention and a fine, or either penalty, may apply where a person attempts su***de following another person's incitement or assistance.

▪️ Serious injury or permanent disability: Temporary imprisonment for 3 to 5 years, together with a fine, may apply if the attempt causes permanent disability or illness or prevents the person from carrying out personal activities for more than 20 days.

▪️ Death: If the incitement or assistance results in the person's death by su***de, the penalty may be 5 to 7 years of temporary imprisonment.

⚠️ Additional Legal Considerations

The amendment provides for aggravated consequences when the person involved is under 18 or has diminished will or perception. Where the person lacks the ability to choose or perceive, the law provides for the penalty prescribed for intentional murder or attempted intentional murder, as applicable.
